The annual Insurance Institute of Gauteng Broker Leadership Forum was brought to you by Sasria and FIA as a virtual broadcast event on 8 July 2022.
The IIG Broker Leadership forum, normally limited to only the heads of the insurance industries, was opened up to all parties in the insurance industries, as sponsors felt that the topic was something that affected the entire industry.
The theme for the leadership forum was Managing special risk in a vulnerable economy and commemorated the 1-year anniversary of the KZN riots.
In the province known as South Africa’s playground, the riots in July might gave way to much destruction were followed closely by the massive floods which contributed to further devastation for individuals and companies alike. Unrest followed by the effects of global warming was not something we could have foreseen but it was definitely something that we as an industry worked towards.
Thabo Twalo president of IIG, Peter Olyott and Muzi Dlala were among the presenters of the forum and were joined by guest speaker Dr. Iraj Abedian, founder and Chief Executive of Pan-African Investment and Research Services (Pty) Ltd and Chairman of Pan-African Capital Holdings (Pty) Ltd.
The topic was elaborated on in terms of market perception, future capacity and consequences in terms of reinsurance and special risk funding models by Musi Dlala
Dr. Abedian spoke about the rising geopolitical complexities and compounding global risk, a political economy perspective followed by a panel discussion with industry experts.
The session was ended with the conclusion that “’n boer maak ‘n plan” and so we should as South Africans also make a plan to come up with solutions for our country’s needs, in order to rebuild the hope of the country as a whole.
