A check-in at the Roots and Wings First Review Session

It is almost halfway through the Roots & Wings mentorship leg of 2022 which was launched in February this year. The mentors and mentees got together for their first review session, on a sunny Thursday the 19th May 2022.   The event was hosted at the Constantia Insurance offices, where mentors, mentees, IIG councilors and sponsors were welcomed to a stunning indoor/outdoor set up with a variety of snacks and drinks.

Kicking off the formalities, #YourIIG President Thabo Twalo welcomed all attendees and thanked everyone for #ShowingUp.   He thanked the programme sponsors, Constantia Insurance, Discovery Insure and Emerald Risk Transfer and the day went off to a rejuvenating start.

Linda Coetzee of Linda Coetzee and Associates (LCA), the programme facilitator welcomed the mentors and mentees, both in the physical and virtual rooms, and noted that there’s been great feedback received from both mentors and mentees. A mentor and a mentee were then nominated to share some insights on their journeys thus far and what a sight it was to see how far the pairs had already come and how much both sides have learnt from one another and grown.

We saw Asiya Swaleh from Fulcrum, Sinethemba Mthinto from Discovery Health, Veronica Kotsoane from SHA, Eugene Hattingh from IUM and Somthemba Makinana from Apio, as some of our mentors and mentees that shared their experiences and a few fun facts about their paired partners with the room which left all in stiches, awe, and absolute fascination.

Other mentors and mentees in attendance also had an opportunity to briefly share their own experiences, where the importance of pushing mentees out of their comfort zones and networking were some of the points highlighted. It is evident that the programme is living up to the objective of “Build, Empower and Fly”.

For the first time this year there was a bit of a surprised for all attendees when Jenna Coetzee from Linda Coetzee and Associates hosted an IIG Quiz. It was interesting to see how well, or not so well guests really know their IIG. All were glad to see however that every day is indeed an opportunity to learn something, anything new! Congratulations to Janelle Kettle of Kettle Consulting on her victory.

The next part was to award the pairs that really showed off their journeys in the most creative and inspiring ways, with truly amazing prizes from Discovery and Chubb. The pairs are urged to not share their learning and growth on the socials, but to show that there’s always room for fun on the way to becoming who you want to be and attaining your goals.

The winners were Sinethemba Mthinto with his mentor Jonathan Crisp, Sarafina Sibiya with her mentor Michele Barclay and Veronica Kotsoane with her mentor Colleen Kanniah. Congratulations ladies and gents!

After wrapping up the formalities with the mentors and mentee feedback, the group then had the opportunity for some professional networking.

Once again, a special thanks to programme Sponsors: Constantia Insurance Company, Discovery Insure,Emerald and Chubb.
