Closing a Chapter, But the Story Continues – Thank you IIG!

Dear IIG Community,

After eight incredible years with the IIG, I would like to express what an honour it has been to serve this remarkable organization. Oh, how time has flown!

My earliest memory of feeling an instant connection with the IIG was in 2017 when I attended the Annual Dinner as a guest at the Africa Re table. I remember sitting in the crowd being so inspired by the then President, Gerald van Wyk, and knew from that day that I wanted to be part of an institution that does so much for an industry and has given me so much.

Through a bursary received during my university years, I began my career in the Alexander Forbes Risk Services graduate program. Three degrees later—including an MBA—I am humbled to share that the last time my parents paid for my education was in my first year of university. This industry has given me the privilege of a paid education and a home to build my career. After receiving such a beautiful gift, how could I not pay it forward?

The IIG pillars of Education, Transformation, Networking, and Affiliation resonate deeply within me, because I am living proof that these are not just words on paper. This industry has countless success stories like mine—people from humble beginnings who were given an opportunity to rise!

The IIG is more than a non-profit organization; it is a community—a village where “everybody knows your name.” A network where the “haves” generously uplift the “have-nots,” a safe space where ideas are share and opportunities are offered without favour. It is an ecosystem where everyone works together for the greater good. Nobody truly leaves; the experienced impart wisdom to the young, and the pride of the villagers make them activists to the surrounding villages. THIS is the ideal the IIG pursues for the short-term insurance industry: driving the insurance movement and creating a platform for its members to Engage, Connect, and Grow!

If I were to thank everyone who contributed to my professional and IIG journey, this written piece would be very long. I am humbled by all the support I’ve received and attribute my success to those who saw potential and lent a helping hand. I have made lifetime friendships, created the most beautiful memories, and would like to encourage all those standing outside looking in to open the IIG door.

I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead in such a meaningful way. The impact we’ve made together will continue to inspire me and remain one of the highlights of my career.

While I am leaving the IIG council, I will always remain an advocate and supporter of the IIG and its mission. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this journey. I look forward to seeing the organization continue to thrive and to witness the incredible impact that lies ahead.
