Daphne Peter

Daphne Peter is the Head of the IIG Education portfolio. Daphne works at Hollard and is the Head of Hollard Risk Finance.  She is currently studying for her BComm and is an Associate of the IISA.

Daphne started in the insurance broking industry in 1982.  Her first job was at Robert Enthoven Insurance Brokers.  Prior to joining Hollard, Daphne was a corporate broker for 22 years and has been at Hollard for 15 years.

Over the years Daphne says she has had the most memorable mentors who willingly shared their skills.  Education gives knowledge and that is Daphne’s goal; Imparting knowledge to the IIG members and the wonderful industry via the work of the IIG Education team.

Daphne loves reading, travelling, photography and  being creative with paper. She enjoys watching most sports but absolutely loves cricket and the F1. She is a mother to the most wonderful daughter in the world.

Simphiwe Mtyali

This is Simphiwe’s third year of being on the IIG council, and her need to give back to the industry has only strengthened over the years. She began her IIG journey in 2017 when she was co-opted as a council member. Since then her role in the IIG has been centered around development programmes, emphasizing her passion for education.

Simphiwe sees herself as an example of what can materialize when education is paired with opportunity. She holds three degrees, one being an MBA, and as one of the founding members of MIRB Africa she is proud of the success her team has achieved since 2014. “I’ve been fortunate to have had mentors and industry colleagues who aided me to get to where I am today. I am however a firm believer that your hustle will ensure that you are presented with opportunities.”

Some of the things she’s missed the most during this COVID-19 national lockdown period is having a picnic, live music and a punisher leg session at the gym.

Keshrie Pillay

Keshrie has participated in the short-term insurance industry for 15 exciting and fulfilling years. Having started in the industry as a doe eyed and eager claims consultant at First Link Insurance Brokers, she has progressed through all the divisions within the brokerage and insurer business over the years.

She is currently employed at Nedbank Insurance, in the broker channel, fulfilling the role of Technical Manager. She uses her technical skills to create product strategy and ensure Nedbank Insurance is equipped with best of breed products and partners, constantly striving for client excellence.

Keshrie holds a B Comm degree specializing in Accounting and Finance and has achieved a leadership post graduate qualification from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

In 2018, Keshrie and her GIBS syndicate attained top honors for their research conducted on micro-insurance and creating a working micro-insurance model to provide a short-term insurance solution to the currently under-served, low-income customer segment.

The drive to make the insurance industry more accessible to new entrants into the market was a key motivating factor for her to join the IIG council on the education portfolio. During 2020, Keshrie eagerly took up the role as owner of the IIG’s Insurance Leadership Development Program (ILDP), sponsored by Sasria and fulfilled by the Gordon Institute of Business Science. Keshrie lives by following quote; “Here’s to strong women.  May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”
