On the 7th of August 2025, the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) came together to host a powerful celebration at the prestigious Polo Room in Johannesburg. With the theme “The Depth of Her Power”, the event paid tribute to the strength, resilience, and influence of women in every sphere of life, with special recognition to those shaping the future of the insurance industry.
The Polo Room provided the perfect setting for a morning of inspiration and empowerment, where elegance met purpose. Guests were welcomed with warmth and excitement, setting the tone for a program that would not only celebrate achievements but also spark reflection on the limitless power women carry.
The vibrant MC Sasha Martinengo as the host, kept the energy alive with her dynamic presence, guiding the event with humor, heart, and grace. His ability to connect with the audience created a celebratory yet meaningful atmosphere, ensuring that every voice in the room felt included in the spirit of the day.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by none other than Zandile Ndhlovu, the Black Mermaid. As South Africa’s first Black female freediving instructor, Zandi has become a symbol of courage, breaking barriers and defying expectations. Her story—of exploring the deep ocean and teaching others to embrace its beauty—was a profound metaphor for the theme. She reminded attendees that just like the ocean, a woman’s power runs deep, vast, and immeasurable. Her words resonated as both an inspiration and a challenge: to dive deeper into our own potential and to support women as they navigate uncharted waters.
The event was more than a celebration; it was a reaffirmation of the role women play in transforming industries, communities, and futures. By honoring the depth of her power, IIG and GWII showcased a commitment to creating platforms where women’s voices, talents, and leadership can continue to rise and thrive.
