On 15 June 2021, the Insurance Institute of Gauteng in partnership with the Insurance Young Guns hosted a youth day event targeting grade 11 and 12 learners as well as unemployed youth from disadvantaged communities. The message of the day was to give hope in the midst of hopelessness and provide school students with the opportunity to learn more about the lucrative and vibrant insurance industry. The aim was to ensure that the students know that a career in insurance is a real opportunity that will give them some direction in their future.
Based on lockdown limitations, the youth day event was a hybrid event which combined a “live” in person event with a “virtual” online component streamed on zoom and IIG Facebook platform The day was jam packed with various activities and amazing speakers to kickstart the day before the students had an opportunity to engage with companies in the insurance industry in a form of a career exhibition.
A big thank you to the sponsors of the event: Sasria, Discovery, Hollard, Itoo, Tracker, Constantia, Old Mutual, Syfinity.
The speakers: Siphamandla Dube – MC (Hollard), Reuben Oosthuysen (Hollard), Nhlanhla Seboto (Inseta), Candice Sutherland (Itoo), Tebogo Raphathelo (Discovery), Nox Dlamini (XonRisk), Vicky Sebothoma (Aon), Jabu Mtimkulu (Bryte)
And lastly the exhibitors: Sasria, Discovery, Constatia, Inseta, CTU, Johannesburg dream Centre and Naledi Youth/ Deliver.
The youth day event was a success where all COVID protocols were observed. We believe the students took home valuable information that will assist them in making career related decisions.
