Q – The ILDP offers many exciting learnings and experiences. What are you most looking forward to this year?
A – I am looking forward to developing lifelong relationships with my classmates and to allow myself to learn new things and have new experiences. I feel like l am back in varsity again and l am loving every moment of it. To be part of 25 young, middle-aged individuals with a passion for the development of talent in this industry is special for me. I will definitely pay it forward.
Q- If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – I would like to have lunch with more than 10 people in our industry, so it’s hard to name one. But l would go with Douw Steyn. He seems to turn everything he touches into lots and lots of money. I would like to ask him some questions on how he gets it right across various industries ranging from real estate to insurance.
Q – As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A – I always thought l would be a medical doctor right until l was about 16 years of age. I devoted my early years to the study of history and sciences. Then my father got very sick and as I nursed him I realised how sensitive l was to people’s pain and the sight of blood. It was with that realisation, my dream of being a doctor died. Then I thought I would travel the world until l found my passion, but reality dictates that you study first, and l decided to study Insurance & Risk Management. What was meant to be a certificate on the shelf whilst I traveled became a fascinating world of numbers and reinsurance contracts. I have never looked back. To top it all, all my roles to date have allowed me to travel, so I get to do both numbers and travel.
