ILDP 2019 – Get to know the students Part 2/4

The Insurance Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) is the IIG’s official leadership programme that provides composite leadership education with the added benefit of an insurance industry contextual environment, proudly sponsored by Sasria SOC Ltd. in association with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

Meet our second syndicate, who have been focussing on “The future of work” for their Action Learning Project (ALP) final presentation.


Simonson Ralebitso – Discovery Insure

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – My amazing manager stated he learnt his managing style from ILDP, from that moment I knew I wanted to be part of this programme. I always wanted to be as great as him so I asked him to help me enrol.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Saks Ntombela ‘Judge me by my results’ Fin24 Article made me fall in love with Ntombela. I realised how much of similarities I have with him and how he has overcome obstacles to be where he is.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by / wisdom to share?
A – “We should all be concerned about our future because we will have to spend the rest of our lives there” –Charles Ketterin

 

 

 

Raksha Ramcharan – JLT

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – One of my goals is to become a CFO in the near future and the ILDP course will assist me in achieving this vision of mine. To utilise the skills and knowledge imparted on us to become better leader.

Q – Coffee or Tea? and Books or Movies?
A – Tea and Movies

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – I would like to have lunch with Tyrone Farinha (ex-CEO of JLT) who is a mentor of mine. He is a great leader and I hope to be as good as him one day.

 

Tinyiko Ngobeni – Munich Re

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – As a young leader I want to enhance my leadership skills and I believe that the ILDP will boost my leadership knowledge swell assist me on my journey of becoming a successful leader in the short term industry.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Gideon Galloway, CEO of King Price, I admire his business acumen and would appreciate learning from him how he managed to grow King Price to worth over $200 million in 6 years.

Q – What is your favourite quote / words to live by/wisdom to share?
A – There is no path to Happiness: Happiness is the path. (Gautama Buddha)

 

 

 

Mmule Mosalo – CIB

Q – The ILDP offers many exciting learnings and experiences, what are you most looking forward to this year?
A – I feel that I will benefit from the programme as the training will equip me with new skills and techniques to assist me in looking at challenges and tasks from a different viewpoint. I will develop my thinking which would assist me in goals setting and strategizing which would help advance the organization. I do well in identifying areas of improvement in my immediate vicinity but have a yearning to learn techniques to help me broaden my scope to look at the entire organization.

Q – As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A – I wanted to be a florist. I’m obsessed with flowers and wanted to be surrounded by them all day.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by/wisdom to share?
A – We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

 

Mmakopa Mosalo – CIB

Q – The ILDP offers many exciting learnings and experiences. What are you most looking forward to this year?
A – I am particularly interested in the learning that will take place during study block 1 and 4 as these are the areas that would challenge me the most as I lack a good foundation of how to successfully deal with conflict and differing ideas as I currently struggle with those two aspects of people management. I would also like to gain more insight on operations management as this is not an aspect that I deal with currently.

 

Q- If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Co-founders of Naked insurance Alex Thomson and Sumarie Greybe, they were able to use the knowledge gained from consulting in the industry and identified the gaps in the current operating model to one that is more customer centric. I would love to learn more about how they see the industry evolving going forward.

Q – As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A – A figure skater.

 

Nonisiwe Makhonjwa – Sasria SOC Ltd

Q – The ILDP offers many exciting learnings and experiences. What are you most looking forward to this year?
A – I am looking forward to learning more about 4IR, system thinking, strategic leadership, personal mastery and applying the learnings in my work and life. I am passionate about technology and the impact that it will have on the future of work. Being more strategic in my thinking and developing relationships with leaders from the industry.

Q – As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A – I wanted to be a Pharmacist when I grew up. I guess I just wanted to wear a lab coat.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by/wisdom to share?
A – See the best in people there is always something you can learn from everyone. Challenges make you stronger and wiser don’t give up.
