On the 16th of June 2020 we celebrate! We celebrate our freedom in observance of national Youth Day. We celebrate our good health, in awareness of the pandemic we are currently experiencing, and we recognise the efforts of all the mum’s and dad’s who, for the past 3 ½ months continue to serve the role of parents, teachers and full time employees. We also give a round of applause to a small group of remarkable individuals who in between all of this, also fulfill the role of full time student in our IIG Insurance Leadership Development Program.
“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” It’s not easy to get out of your comfort zone and start doing something different for the first time…but it always pays off in some way or another – with success, self-improvement or experience.
These words are especially true now, when we consider the journey traveled, and the path still to follow in realising the ILDP 2020 goal of our 25 middle managers whom have chosen to achieve this success.
On the 26th May 2020, our eager students logged into their online learning platform, ready to embrace Problem Solving Through Systems Thinking and Creative Thinking. In this block, the students got the opportunity to:
- view the world we live and work in with a lens of innovation,
- consideration for Business Planning and Project Management and
- realising their innate ability for Leadership and Leading Change.
The lessons learned in this study block will also be applied to the Action Learning Program that the class is tasked with completing this year. With the IIG’s 2020 focus on #Sustainability, the class is divided into 5 Syndicates, each tasked with a specific sustainability goal to achieve within the context of the insurance industry. This will involve understanding the problem, creating concept solutions and conducting a pilot to test the function, feasibility and possible success of the solution.
This year, our students will be solving:
- Learnerships and Internships
- Supporting Women Empowerment
- Consumer Education on Financial Management and Insurance
- Affordable Short-Term Insurance: Contributing to Growth and Transformation
- Contributing to Transformation: Enterprise Development and B-BBEE Procurement
We thank our sponsor Sasria SOC, for your continued support to ensure that we are enabled to deliver world class learning delivered by the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Follow our students on IIG Facebook and LinkedIn pages, where monthly we will introduce you to these remarkable young leaders.
