#YourIIG caught up with Precious Nduli, Marketing Councillor and Head: Technical Marketing at Discovery Insure. Here’s what she had to say..
Have you ever travelled overseas before and which is your favourite destination?
Yes, I have travelled a few times. I have loved all the European cities I have been to but my favourite is Paris. I have to also mention that Seychelles is beautiful for an Island holiday.
Why have you decided to join IIG Global 2019?
Well, firstly I have never been to America so it was a great opportunity to do so. In addition, the IIG International gives a unique opportunity to network with like-minded insurance professionals whilst also learning from global organisations. The cities chosen are fantastic as San Francisco is the hub of technological innovation and Washington DC is the hub of governance and development organisations. I am looking forward to gaining insights on insurance, innovation and leadership.
If you had one travel tip for first-time travellers what would it be?
Comfort is key when travelling. Wear warm and comfortable clothing for the flight and do not overeat on the plane although it is tempting. It is also useful to carry an extra set of changing clothes, pyjamas and small toiletries in your hand luggage in case there is a delay with your luggage at the destination – I learnt this the hard way.
What are you looking forward to the most on this trip?
I have mentioned this in question 2 above but I am also looking forward to meeting new people and possibly some new insights on Americans.
Tell us something fun about yourself that most people don’t know.
I have lived in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg which I think is quite interesting (albeit maybe not fun) and as such I love a warm ocean, good wine and a fast pace.
What is the one thing that you cannot travel without?
I have a leather backpack that I take on all my travels – it works better than a handbag as it is more durable and has more space as I find I carry more things during the day when I am travelling.
If you could live in any other country where would you live?
I could live in Switzerland as the quality of life and general efficiency is great but the cold in Winter would kill me. For better weather and to stay in Africa I could live in Kenya but then the traffic would kill me.
What country has the best food?
Well if I do not include South Africa, Italy has great food. I also loved the Indian influences when I went to Mauritius as I enjoy a good curry.
What is your least favourite thing about travelling?
I do not like long stopovers as I am a bit impatient and even in a great airport I find I do not have much to do. Depending on which country you go to, getting through passport control can also take an inordinate amount of time.
How will u be putting the SA in the USA?
I think I am typically South African – loud, love food & patriotic. I consider myself an ambassador of the country when I am travelling so it is really just about being the best representative of my country and enjoying the opportunity.
Stay tuned as we feature the next #IIGlobal2019 delegate..
