“This week I have been spending time with people who, hopefully, enjoy my company, people that have an interest in my story, people that I have an interest in their story, their lives, and how they’re doing. Somehow spending time with people who have an interest in you, and you have interest in them has made me happy and I think there’s a lesson in there somewhere. I think part of what we do here at #Roots&Wings is exactly that: spend time with people who have an interest in us, and we have an interest in them, so surely we should be happy right? Right.”
A jubilant introduction by 2022 IIG President Thabo Twalo as he opened our annual Mix n’ Mingle event held at Constantia Insurance Company in July this year.

Linda, from Linda Coetzee and Associates then welcomed both mentors and mentees saying, “the fact that you’ve taken time out of your very busy diaries we feel exceptionally privileged so thank you for joining us.” Linda further acknowledged the first-time mentors and returning ones, thanking each and everyone for #ShowingUp. Empathy and gravitas were the themes and Linda reminded all in the room of their meaning and the importance thereof in each of our lives journeys.
“You feel whatever you’re experiencing is real for you. I cannot be the person that says it’s ridiculous or you have no reason to be angry just get over it pull yourself towards yourself…”
Jenna, from Linda Coetzee and Associates also left the room with inspiring and thought-provoking insights about not just showing up, but #ShowingUp with intention.
“Intention is your aim, it is your ambition, it’s an aspiration it’s a goal, it’s an ideal, an objective, a purpose a target. Intention is not a method; your intention is not the means by which you will meet your goal. Your intention is what you want. Who you want to be.”
The proceedings for the day would not have been complete without, in true Mix n Mingle spirit, hearing a word or two from some of the mentees and mentors in the programme on their experience so far, and any tricks and tips for one another.
