Roots & Wings Mentee – Leadership, Communication & Networking: Strengthening the Insurance Industry – One Conversation at a Time

It’s time to lead with purpose, communicate with flair, and network with intention both in boardrooms and on social feeds. Because educating people = empowering people. And who better to do that than bold women in insurance?

Leadership, Communication & Networking: Strengthening the Insurance Industry – One Conversation at a Time In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving insurance landscape, technical knowledge alone no longer sets you apart. What truly drives success both for individuals and organizations is a combination of strong leadership, clear communication, and purposeful networking.

Leadership in insurance goes beyond just making decisions. It’s about inspiring teams, navigating change, and supporting clients through often stressful and uncertain times. A great leader builds trust, encourages collaboration, and fosters innovative traits that are more critical than ever as our industry adapts to regulatory changes, tech disruption, and shifting client needs. Communication is equally vital. Whether you’re speaking with clients, assessors, brokers, or internal teams, how we communicate can either enhance clarity or create confusion. Clear, timely, and transparent communication helps avoid costly mistakes, speeds up claims processing, and ultimately improves the customer experience.

And let’s not forget the power of networking. This industry runs on relationships whether it’s with service providers, fellow insurers, or stakeholders across the value chain. Building and nurturing your professional network doesn’t just open doors it fuels collaboration, insight-sharing, and mutual growth. Recently, I came across a TikTok where someone confidently stated, “insurance is a scam.” Initially, I dismissed it as another misinformed rant. But after watching the full post, I realized that the issue wasn’t skepticism—it was lack of knowledge. That moment reminded me of how important it is for us to meet people where they are especially Gen Z (Ama 2000), who rely heavily on digital platforms for information. Many people regardless of age don’t understand how insurance works or how it protects them. We, as industry professionals, can change that.

Let’s use social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to make insurance more accessible and relatable. Imagine short, engaging videos explaining things like what excess is, what’s covered (and what’s not), or how to file a claim. These bite-sized bits of knowledge can do more than just educate they can help shift public perception and rebuild trust. At the end of the day, we all benefit from a more informed society. It’s time to lead with purpose, communicate with impact, and network with intention both offline and online. And yes, women are rising to the occasion, using their voices to drive change and educate the next generation of policyholders and professionals.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Because real change starts with one honest, human, and helpful discussion at a time.
