The 97th IIG Inaugural Dinner

The IIG’s 2019 Inaugural Dinner took place on the 7th of March 2019 at The Galleria – a fitting venue for a glamorous event.  Everyone was dressed to the nines on this black tie-themed evening – the gentlemen looked suave in their suits and the ladies truly stole the show in their beautiful dresses.

Our MC for the evening was Darryl Grater, the Deputy President of the IIG Council, who did a spectacular job in making sure that the programme proceeded smoothly. Shortly after we were welcomed by Darryl, Nontuthuko Mhlungu, co-opted member of the Council, made a moving opening prayer.

The Councillor of the Year Award went to Chelene Naidoo from Camargue. Chelene was integral in rejuvenating the IIG’s online presence, where she assisted in the development of a new website as well as the rollout of a successful social media strategy in 2018 (this included creating an Instagram page).

Later in the evening Natasja Blok, Past President of the IIG, had the honor of handing over the presidential chain from Daniel Stevens to Carla Jordan. President Carla Jordan then welcomed Daniel Stevens as the immediate Past President of the IIG, by honouring him with the Past President’s badge. Carla took over the stage and had the opportunity to not only recognise the Past Presidents of the IIG, but to share her vision for 2019 and theme for the year – Pride Purpose Passion.

The food was divine and we danced the night away, all the while networking and making new friends.

We would like to acknowledge our sponsors for making the first IIG Networking of 2019 a success:

With special thanks to our main sponsors: Emerald Africa, Marsh, Old Mutual Insure and the Graduate Institute of Financial Services.
Our Co-sponsors: Bryte, Chubb, Discovery Insure, Santam and Sasria SOC.
Our Contributing sponsor: Guy Carpenter

Sponsors also offered great activations which added to a memorable event experience. Marsh welcomed all the guests with the waiters wearing branded aprons, a blue carpet, and beautiful welcome drinks. Emerald Africa hosted the selfie station and photobooth, providing guests with memories to last a lifetime. Sasria ensured that every guest left with a beautifully branded gift celebrating their 40 year anniversary. Discovery hosted guests in a beautiful lounge area after the event and Santam provided a cozy coffee stand with freshly brewed coffee. The newly branded GIFS (Graduate Institute of Financial Sciences) formerly known as Masifunde, sponsored all the champagne and kinetic ball show – again, cheers to your new brand and all the best to your bright future!

For many, insurance has been an industry of chance, but this year the IIG wants to make insurance an industry of choice for all who serve it.
