The IIG Impact & Transformation Team

Natasha Maroun has 27 years’ experience in the insurance industry.  After completing her legal studies she started in the industry as a broker and then moved on to Hannover Re where she completed the graduate trainee programme.  After a few years in the treaty department of Hannover Re she joined the Lireas team where she represented Lireas on boards of the Underwriting Managers where they were involved.  She became a shareholder and managing director of Gem & Jewel Acceptances and after 6 years the company was sold to Zurich/Bryte.  Since then, she has been the National Head of the Jewellery, Fine Art and Specie division of Bryte SA.

She has been on the Insurance Institute of Gauteng council for 3 years.  In 2019 she was the head of the marketing portfolio and this year she heads up the Impact and Transformation portfolio.  Natasha has always been involved in mentoring, growing and developing bright young talent and has made it her personal mission to attract bright young talent to the insurance industry.  Being part of the IIG and specifically this portfolio she believes lends her to an even greater platform to help young stars rise.

She is passionate about family, friends and all things bling.

 

Bukhosi Khumalo is currently a Client Executive at Marsh Pty Ltd and has been in the insurance industry for over 5 years, primarily in the broking and risk advisory fraternity.

On the IIG council he is in the Impact and Transformation portfolio responsible for the IIG Academic Programme in partnership with GIFS and MTN. This is a role he values because of the positive impact it has on improving the socio-economic challenges in the country. Owing to his previous contributions in activities similar to the IIG from the age of 20, he is no stranger to the affairs of professional human development and networking in the industry. He is a past member and President of the Risk Management and Actuarial Sciences society and which also granted him a seat on the IIB (Insurance Institute of Bulawayo) board. He contributes as a writer for some of the widest-read magazines in the country on issues surrounding risk management and insurance. One of his biggest desires is to motivate the younger generation to seek insurance as a career of choice rather than chance or accident, as we work towards #InsuringTomorrow. He is a firm believer in Robert Ingersoll’s maxim, “We rise by lifting others”…..

He holds a B.Com Hons. in Risk Management and Insurance (Cum Laude), is an AIISA (South Africa), a member of the Institute if Risk Management of South Africa (IRMSA) and a general member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK).

Lastly and most importantly, he values family and is married to his greatest motivator and supporter; Nomkhuleko.

 

Sarah Moses is a member of IIG Impact and Transformation Portfolio and is a Business Development Manager at Discovery Insure.

Sarah has worked in the short-term insurance industry for over 11 years. Her key expertise is in the areas of Marine Insurance and Commercial. As a broker and insurer, Sarah has worked with a broad spectrum of partners both nationally and internationally.

Graduated as an Educator Sarah joined the industry as a Marine Claims technician 11 years ago, she is now a Business Development Manager that specializes in Marine and Commercial Insurance Products. Committed to helping brokers by offering comprehensive solutions, develop custom solutions where possible and work on expanding the business insurance customer base. She enjoys being able to offer products and services that helps businesses find success.

This is Sarah’s 2nd year on council, she managed the pilot “Academic Program” partnered with GIFS in 2019. Sarah is passionate about the empowerment of young leaders in business and is dedicated in her pursuit of equality in the workplace as a whole. To this end, Sarah is involved in a number of mentorship programmes, developing the next generation of young industry leaders. She shares in the purpose of the industry in that insurance should be a career of choice and not chance.

 

Vuyo Rankoe is an IIG councilor and valuable member of the Impact & Transformation Team. He currently the Head of Niche at Santam, where he is primarily responsible for managing, implementing and developing business strategy for Santam’s Niche portfolio, whom account of 6.5 billion of the gross premium income. Vuyo’s role involves determining the strategic direction, expanding Niche across the continent, and ensuring risk, governance and compliance within Niche. Vuyo is a highly professional, analytical and determined individual, who has gained sound experience in actuarial and statistical modelling and utilises these skills to optimise profitability, product development and business efficiency.

 

 

 

 

Suren Kasil is a member of IIG Impact & Transformation portfolio and is involved in the Roots & Wings programme. One of his personal objectives has always been to share his knowledge, be a role model and to mentor other individuals. Suren is grateful to be part of the Roots & Wings programme as it has given him a great platform to contribute and return the gift of mentorship, which Suren received when he first started out in the industry.

Suren is the Founder and Director of XINIX Insurance Brokers and Syfinity Solutions, a software company. He attained a Masters degree in Accounting Sciences in 2018 and is a registered Professional Accountant. With over 22 years of experience in insurance, Suren has been fortunate to have gained technical knowledge and skills in the operations of Finance, Underwriting, Sales & Marketing, Claims and Information Technology.

What drives Suren is his ability to solve problems using technology.  He was recently involved in a project that created an App for Covid Symptom Screening (MyGate App). The App was successfully launched to assist companies to comply with Covid protocols, through the use of QR Codes. The 1st of August 2020 saw XINIX celebrate its 8th year in business. While many businesses have closed their doors I do not take this for granted and I am ever grateful that our doors remain open for business.I am amazed at the knowledge one can acquire, with the many resources that is out there, including YouTube.  I am really excited to see what opportunities lay ahead for me, with my new found knowledge.

Suren has enjoyed all the family time he has got to spend with his wife and two teenage daughters, Sure says they are now experts at board games and playing cards. The family has even gained an appreciation for his kind of music….old Bollywood classics!!
