As I pause and take a moment to reflect on the past 5 months of this journey, I cannot help but think about the very beginning. The nerves and anxiety as I waited to hear if I had been accepted into this most extraordinary development programme. The acceptance letter came, and I was one of 26 eager, nervous, energetic, enthusiastic individuals who had no idea what the Class of 2024 would bring, but who was nonetheless excited for what was coming.
From the very first-class session, I already knew that this experience was going to be incomparable. Learning the importance of personal branding and truly knowing yourself to ensure that you may thrive in your environment, was truly eye-opening. Understanding the psychology behind surrounding yourself with the best Tribe to allow for learning from others’ experiences and growing together was another gem discovered on this journey.
Our second session brought with it the knowledge and frameworks for dealing with change and conflict, particularly in situations where elements are not within your control. Change is important. As we learnt, ‘Change is growth. If you are not growing, you are dying’.
In keeping with the motto for our Class this year, we have also been given the incredible opportunity to #LinkUp with inspiring insurance industry leaders and professionals in the form of networking events, our class sessions and the wonderful IIG Council.
At the risk of sounding cliché, “There is no I in Team”. My most sincere gratitude goes out to my team, my Tribe, Imbumba. In our short time together, we have learnt the power of collaboration and achieved the joy of success in every goal that we have set our minds to. You have shown me the importance of recognising one’s own strengths and the necessity of differing perspectives to allow for growth. Teamwork makes the dream work. I have no doubt that we will surely achieve and exceed our remaining goals for the year.
Through this programme, I have thus far been provided with practical tools to navigate and overcome challenges in both my professional and personal life. ‘Class of’ is truly designed to challenge you to grow, bring out your absolute best personal and professional self, push you out of your comfort zone and pull you into your un-comfort zone. I eagerly look forward to what comes next…
