Chapter 115 for the IIG!

The Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) officially entered a new era this month as we welcomed our 2026 President, Jabulile “Jabu” Mtimkulu.

In a moving inaugural address that spanned from the technical desks of underwriting to the global horizons of international networking, the message for the year was made clear:

Our strength lies in our collective ambition.

Our new President’s story is a testament to the IIG’s developmental ecosystem. Having started in the industry as an underwriter, their journey came full circle—moving from the Class of 2018 to a Roots and Wings mentee in 2019 and eventually serving five years on the IIG Council.
Supported by the Bryte Insurance Group and BSM, the President’s rise highlights the importance of the “lifting” culture within our industry.

As noted in her address: “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.”

The 2026 Vision: #AspireTogether
The theme for the year, #AspireTogether, serves as a call to action for every generation in the Gauteng insurance community. It is a commitment to bridging the gap between the fresh energy of newcomers and the indispensable wisdom of our industry veterans.

“In a world of AI and automation, our human connection, our mentorship, and our shared aspirations are what will keep this industry indispensable.”

Jabulile noted the following focus areas for the year:

The IIG’s roadmap for 2026 is built on four key pillars designed to protect our technical skills and our unique IIG spirit

The Starting Line: The return of the Academic Programme in 2026 for school leavers to attract and inspire the next generation of talent early.

  1. Executive Excellence: The highly anticipated return of the ILDP through Henley Business School, ensuring our leaders remain world-class.
  2. The Ultimate Global Connection: A landmark announcement that IIG International 2026 is heading to China. This trip will offer delegates an unparalleled look at InsurTech and global scale.
  3. Sustained Partnership: A deep acknowledgment of our Sponsors and Members, the lifeblood whose financial and intellectual backing turns potential into performance.

A Message to the Industry

The address concluded with a powerful invitation to the 2026 Council to “Aspire” together, and a message of hope for the Class of 2026 and Roots & Wings Mentees: “Look around, look closely, and know that your journey is just beginning.”
As we look toward the months ahead, the IIG remains committed to ensuring that no professional gets left behind and no newcomer feels alone.

We are ready to reach higher. We are ready to #AspireTogether.
