Charlene Houston
Charlene joined the IIG Marketing portfolio in 2019 as an Ambassadorial councillor where she assists with the institute’s social media and is one of the IIG Class of 2019 students.
She is passionate about the industry, growing the insurance industry and persuading the younger generation that insurance should be their career of choice. Charlene had her first taste of insurance during her gap year but decided she wanted to study Hospitality management instead. However, it was soon after completing this course that she decided to return to the insurance industry as a claims handler, specialising in short-term insurance. She later moved on to become the Contact Centre Team Lead for many years and also took up a position at Nedbank Insurance as the Team Lead in the contact Centre. She is now the Contingency Team Leader that supports various areas within Nedbank Insurance in times of need or crisis. here she manages the Active Operations system internally as well to ensure they are applying the methodology of the system to its utmost functionality in order to receive the maximum output for the business. Charlene claims that her love for the operational environment is beyond love, it is a calling.
Leading the way, she mentors two learners through the “YES Initiative” as well as another two interns that have been earmarked to become future loss adjusters.
Personally, Charlene is happily married with a 4-year-old little boy (and not to forget her two dogs). She also has a love for painting (Paint by Numbers) despite admitting that she has no artistic flair. She is also a huge F1 supporter and supports none other than FERRARI – she will not leave the house if there a Grand Prix is on.
