ILDP 2019 – Get to know the students Part 3/4

The Insurance Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) is the IIG’s official leadership programme that provides composite leadership education with the added benefit of an insurance industry contextual environment, proudly sponsored by Sasria SOC Ltd. in association with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

Meet our third syndicate:

Tiro Tlhwaele – Hollard Insurance Company

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – The programme provides the perfect platform for leadership growth which fits in well with my development need. The level of exposure will heighten my awareness in the industry and expand my network. My goal is to become an Insurance Executive and I believe the insights gained will provide the necessary tools that make a great leader.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – It would be Saks Ntombela: Current CEO at Hollard Insurance. Reason being I want to understand how he maintains the level of calmness that he possess when we all know the amount of pressure he is under. Dealing and managing the complex nature of personalities in his excecutive is not easy however he manages to execute this and ensure alignment flawlessly. He is such a humble leader.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by / wisdom to share?

Caryn Joseph – Solomons – Old Mutual Insurance

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – When I moved to Johannesburg, I worked in Illovo and drove past GIBS daily, I decided then that I would study at this campus. I enjoy challenges and believe in making sure I remain relevant and the IIG ILDP program is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Carolyn De Silva, I have always admired her and would love to know more about her journey thus far as well as what’s next on her list of accomplishments.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by / wisdom to share?

Mbali Mzimela – Hollard Insurance Company

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – Living in the age of convenience, high technological advancement and very informed customer, it is important to stay abreast of improved ways of delivering convenient products to customers in the platforms they prefer.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Drew Schnehage, commercial Director of Innovation group. Self-made in the Industry and has vast experience and knowledge spanning 28 years.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by / wisdom to share?
A – “Do it well or do not do it at all (Go big or go home)”

 

 

Juanita Lochan – Innovation Group South Africa

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – The Insurance industry faces many challenges and is on the cusp of a huge talent gap- the ILPD program provides a platform to solve for these problems by encouraging innovative thinking, delivering relevant industry context and nurturing leadership talent for the future. It is critical to develop leaders that will take the industry forward and ensure its continuity. I was deeply encouraged to join this program as it is aligned to my goals of becoming a value-creating future leader in the industry whilst building strategic relationships in order to drive collaborative growth.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Ms. Thokozile Mahlangu (CEO: The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA)- Thokozile inspires me as she is a humble, hardworking and experienced female leader that has grown leaps and bounds in our industry. She possesses strong transformational leadership qualities and is passionate about skills development and business growth within the insurance industry- I would love to pick her brain and discover more about her ambition and drive

Kopano Radebe – IISA

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – This programme will increase my knowledge and assist in developing my leadership/management skills and to optimize on my critical thinking and on how to execute and effectively manage the strategic objectives of my organization, broaden my people skills on how to effectively equip the individuals within my team and working together in unlocking our creativity, it’s future focus on how to deal with the 4th industry revolutionary matters and remain relevant..

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – Natalie Van de Coolwijk CEO of Willis Re’s South African operation, I am fascinated by the reinsurance business within the industry, getting to know more on what’s the future plans for the reinsurance business, how are they keeping up with the state of the economy of our country and internationally, & the disruption & the turbulence of the fourth industrial revolutionary.

Yolandi Rex – Mercedes- Benz Financial Services (PTY) Ltd

Q – In no more than 50 words, please explain what motivated you to apply for ILDP?
A – The ILDP presented me with an opportunity to not only assist me to develop and enhance certain skill sets, but to also prepare me to function on a more strategic level within our Financial Services Company. This programme offered a very unique collaboration where individuals from different companies and operations within the insurance industry can engage and connect with one another, and this attracted me most.

Q – If you could have lunch with anyone in our industry, who would it be and why?
A – There is not a single person that I would like to have lunch with but more a group of people that has been in the insurance industry for the longest time. The last 100 years has been marked as a century that has experienced more change and transformation than any other period of time and it would be interesting to spend time with these individuals to understand the challenges they faced, how they overcame these challenges and stayed ahead of the curve.

Q – What is your favourite quote/words to live by / wisdom to share?
A – There is a short poem called, “The Road Less Travelled” (by Robert Frost) that I live by. Its easy to walk on a road that is clearly marked out and trampled on but you get to discover more in life by taking a road that few has travelled by.
