Empowering Future Leaders, Enriching Communities – The Class of 2025 is Alive and Thriving!

Since its establishment in 2013, the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) has been committed to empowering young insurance professionals through a comprehensive initiative called the ‘Class of’ program. This programme is designed to provide participants with the tools and opportunities needed to reach their full potential, transforming the careers of future leaders within the industry.

One of the key aspects of the ‘Class of’ program is its focus on social responsibility through corporate social investment (CSI) projects. Each year, the President of IIG selects a non-profit organization (NPO) to support, and this year, the chosen partner is “Taking Care of Business.” Founded in 2010, “Taking Care of Business” is an internationally recognized South African social enterprise that has made significant strides in uplifting informal traders and small business owners. As a Level 1 BBEEE Enterprise Development Supplier, they work to empower over 1,500 entrepreneurs at any given time by partnering with 16 major retail brands. Their innovative initiatives concentrate on enterprise development and training programs that promote repair and repurposing of goods, helping unemployed South Africans achieve financial and social independence.

This year, the Class of 2025 is divided been divided into two tribes: Shoshin, led by Co-Opt Council member Sheldon Prince, and The Strategic Elite, led by Ambassador Temwa Nyirenda. In collaboration with Linda Coetzee and Associates, these tribes engage participate in engaging class and module learning, that covers a diverse range of topics, including, Tribal Leadership, Personal Branding, Change Management, Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Management, and Managing Anxiety and Stress. This comprehensive approach equips participants with both practical knowledge and necessary skills to excel in their careers.

The council’s motto for this year, “#2025&Alive,” captures the vibrancy and ambition of the Class of 2025. Participants are encouraged to embody this spirit as they challenge themselves to grow both personally and professionally while contributing to the community through meaningful CSI projects.

As the Class of 2025 moves forward, its members are not only shaping their own futures but also playing a vital role in uplifting others in their communities. The IIG looks forward to seeing how this initiative will continue to inspire young professionals to embrace challenges and create positive change in the industry and beyond.
