In celebration of women’s month, the IIG held their annual ladies day event on the 6th of August 2020 in partnership with the Gauteng Women In Insurance (GWII). Catherine Pienaar, the current President of GWII welcomed everyone to the first virtual ladies event, spoke of the significance of the event and welcomed the first act who was the well-known comedian Trevor Gumbi.
The theme of the event was ‘Love and Laughter’ in lockdown and Trevor certainly delivered on the laughs and was a welcomed escape to the current crazy times. Deputy President of the IIG, Tshepiso Chocho, introduced the second part of the event which was a panel discussion featuring some prominent women in the insurance industry. On the panel we had Thokozile Mahlangu, CEO of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA), Henriette Senekal who is the Chief Executive of PSG short term and Tashniva Angadh, Past Chair of Insurance Young Guns (IYG) and Business Development Manager at Hollard.
The discussion touched on the critical issue of Gender Based Violence, how each of the ladies have navigated success and if they perceived any barriers to their success. The panelists agreed that what has made them successful is hard work, a positive attitude, looking at barriers as challenges that can be overcome and having resilience. Finally, the panelists addressed the question of work/life balance during lockdown and how they have managed to deal with digital fatigue. They all emphasized the importance of setting boundaries and separating work from family time.
It was then time to introduce the final act of the day, Magician and Mentalist Larry Soffer. With the help of willing participants from the audience, Larry performed magic tricks that left the audience amazed. All audience participants also scored themselves a Takealot voucher worth R250.
The event ended with the announcement of a few prizes that ranged from beauty and spa vouchers up to the Grand Prize of a weekend away at a luxury game lodge that went to Michelle Govender from Carmague Underwriting Managers. Thank you to our prize sponsors for the incredible prizes.
