ILDP 2019 – Block 3 and 4 update

The 2019 Insurance Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) has almost reached its close. We have had another two successful study blocks and our ILDP students are preparing for the final presentations as well as counting down to Graduation.

In addition to integrating the overall 2019 theme of Insurance 4.0 – a play on Industry 4.0 and the 4th Industrial Revolution, the last two blocks were themed around decision-making through sound business acumen.

Study Block 3 was opened by IIG President, Carla Jordan, who shared a few thoughts and pearls of wisdom as the students entered the second half of their year at GIBS. Carla encouraged everyone to keep up the momentum and not to lose focus. The lectures covered Economics of Accounting and Financial Management and a new topic was added to the programme design for 2019: Diversity. The link between the diversity module and multipliers was discussed, (you may remember the Multipliers simulation covered in the first block). #YourIIG arranged a special guest speaker, Matt Smith (Discovery Insure) who shared important information and finer details of implementation in the 4th Industrial Revolution space within insurance.

Although the previous block ended with a feeling of stress, ahead of a finance exam on the 3rd September, GIBS opened study block 4 with a very excited group on the 9th September. The final three-day block covered Customer Centricity, where students learnt how to strengthen and better manage customer & stakeholder relationships, and Business Operations Management where delegates saw how operations links to business strategy. A practical simulation was run for Business Operations that gave learners the opportunity to apply their theoretical learnings through a case study.

The final day was all about the final preparations as the year comes to an end, PDP coaching was followed by feedback sessions for their Action Learning Projects and finally a session for ‘reflections’. It’s important to reflect and evaluate, what was so incredible was the feedback shared by the students about their experience on the course thus far and how people have positively changed through learnings.

IIG’s Deputy President; Darryl Grater, and Head of Education; Daphne Peter joined the class for a few closing words. Darryl shared motivation for the final few deliverables and reminded all of the support from IIG, GIBS and their companies. “We have a responsibility to ourselves, to our industry and to our country to make the best of such opportunities as change will only come from those of us who create it!”

The last blocks gave students the ability to apply their knowledge to analyse the business environment in which their firms operate, and further insights to allow the development of better and effective management strategies and that will contribute to achieving sustainable business growth and positive change in their environments.

We wish our delegates all the best with their Final Presentations coming up on the 12th November and of course the Graduation on the 21st November. A special and huge thank you needs to be shared with Sasria SOC for sponsoring ILDP and making this programme possible for our industry.

On a separate note, #YourIIG hosted a Wellness day for all students participating in IIG education programmes, the ILDP students joined on Saturday the 7th September, for a fantastic day which opened thinking about ‘balanced living’, taught everyone how to better manage stress and how exercise can assist with improved lifestyles. The ILDP student won 4 prizes – well done team!
