We caught up with Tshepiso Chocho, Education Councillor and Executive Manager: People Management at Sasria SOC Ltd. Here’s what she had to say..
Have you ever travelled overseas before and which is your favourite destination?
Yes, I have travelled overseas. I most enjoyed taking my kids to Disney World in 2017. I loved the weather in Orlando Florida.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
I love Thailand, the simplicity of the life of a local is so humbling. The magnificent waters and views during the day and the vibe in the night time.
What is the best way to sleep on a plane?
Definitely Business Class, I mean come on!!!
If in economy, make sure to bring a pillow to support your neck. Wear comfortable shoes if you are flying a long distance to reduce swelling of your feet.
What do you like to do while travelling?
I am an absolute tourist. I like to wake up early so I can experience everything that the town has to offer. I use TripAdisor to find out the things to do. I try to go to as many historical sites as possible. I like to walk (where possible) so I can feel like a resident and not a tourist. While walking you also meet locals, it’s a good idea to befriend one or two so they can show you around.
What are you looking forward to the most on this trip?
1st – it’s that feeling you get while at the airport – knowing you will be waking up in another world.
2nd – is San Francisco, I have not been there before – to see Golden Gate Bridge with my own eyes.
3rd – is the company. The travelling group seems great, I can’t wait to meet everyone.
4th – is the itinerary. I look forward to learning new things or a different way of seeing things. I look forward to being more informed when I return.
Tell us something fun about yourself that most people don’t know.
I turn 40 years old on the 16th July. I have booked and paid for skydiving. I hope I make it on that plane and not get cold feet on the day.
Do you have a method of packing your clothes when travelling? Any packing tips for #IIGlobal2019?
A long time ago I learnt to roll my clothes in order to fit more things. However, I never need to as I am a light traveller. I avoid taking too many things on my trips, it gives me an excuse to buy stuff when I get to the destination. This way I don’t have to worry about baggage fees.
What is the one thing that you cannot travel without?
An umbrella. It has to be small and be able to fit in my handbag. It makes me feel prepared for anything.
If you could live in any other country where would you live?
I don’t know. There is no place like home. Every time I travel I get tired of the place after a while and all I want to hear is a South African language – It feels good to hear “Goie More Mevrou” when you board a flight back to South Africa. So for that reason, I don’t think I could live anywhere else.
What country has the best food?
The Brazilian Favelas. I had the best bean stew there.
Do you have a song that reminds you of a road trip?
Tracy Chapman’s 1st album and Angie Stone’s More than a woman to me.
What is your least favourite thing about travelling?
I don’t like to travel where people don’t speak a word of English. I also don’t like the wait at airports, especially connecting flights. I also don’t like leaving my cat behind.
Any Airport hacks to share with fellow delegates?
People must just watch their bags very closely, get locks for your back or have your baggage wrapped
How will u be putting the SA in the USA?
With my Kasi flute (whistle technique)
Stay tuned as we feature the next #IIGlobal2019 delegate..
