Simphiwe is in her fifth year of council, she began her IIG journey as a co-opted council member and rose in the ranks to become the current Deputy President. Her role on council has evolved from executing the council’s strategy to a custodian and influencer of the direction that the IIG is taking. She is the incoming president and is excited about the IIG’s plans for 2023!
She was the first employee at Howden Broking South Africa, former MIRB Africa, and has contributed to the growth of the company from when it was still a startup on the African continent. Her journey in both her career and the IIG have been very similar, both starting from humble beginnings. Hard work, discipline and commitment have elevated her to where she is today.Simphiwe is the IIG exco representative for the education portfolio, the portfolio responsible for the IIG’s flagship educational programme (the ILDP) as well as the popular Insights thought leadership webinars.
She has never doubted the importance of the IIG to the industry, but her years on council have further opened her eyes to the difference that each industry participant can make. “No matter how small, our incremental contributions all add up.”
As a new mom her exercise regime has been placed on pause, “It has been such a big adjustment finding the balance between motherhood and my career aspirations, but I’m finding my feet. I’m also thrilled to see the resemblance of my social life coming back, I owe this to the amazing support structure I have. My life is same same but beautifully different!”
