Spread your wings and fly

One of the most significant events on our academic calendar has to be the IIG Graduation Day and for good reason. The 2022 Roots and Wings big day was held at the Santam offices in Sandton and was attended by mentors, mentees and some of their managers. Also in attendance were some of the IIG council members which included 2022 President Thabo Twalo from Santam and former President and Emerald representative Carla Jordan.

Thabo Twalo welcomed the guests with some pearls of wisdom and applauded everyone for #ShowingUp for themselves and for others.

Carla Jordan then shared a bit of history of the origins of the program and its humble beginnings with only a few participants, to where it is today.

Linda Coetzee and associates, the official facilitators of the IIG’s Roots and Wings mentorship were at the event sharing a few last words of inspiration and encouragement, and well-deserved congratulations to the graduates for their journeys and future endeavours.

Mentees excitedly took to the floor as their names were announced and hopped on to the stage to receive their certificates of completion, truly marking not the end but the beginning of paths that they carved for themselves through a simple nudge in the right direction from the right people at the right time.

Congratulations and a job well done to the 2022 Mentors and Mentees!
