IIG Ladies Day 2019

The power of a women is unfathomable, it is so mighty, even she herself cannot comprehend. For our 2019 Women’s Day celebration we decided to harness the power of not one, but 350 ladies in collaboration with Gauteng Women in Insurance. It was a beautiful themed ladies day event with this being Bohemian City Chic, celebrating the uniqueness. Our Sponsors ensured that all the guests were entertained from arrival! Emerald Risk Transfer welcomed all guests with an exquisite champagne wall and a hashtag at the entrance to remind them to #BeYou. Upon entering the venue Tracker had magazine displays filled with the latest edition of the ideas magazine to inspire guest for an art project that was planned for later in the afternoon.

All ladies were welcomed to beautifully floral decorated room and gifted with a luxurious tin of bath salts sponsored by Constantia and a freshly packed Krispy Kreme’s sponsored by Tracker. MC and Deputy President Darryl Grater, welcomed ladies in attendance “Here we are celebrating you. What you have and everything you have no choice but to juggle. Women are the backbone of society. They are the source of empathy that many men lack. We must acknowledge that we are in a better place than we were 20 or 30 years ago. We need to dream and dare to do. We need to direct the conversation of change. I cannot imagine celebrating the women in our industry in any other way than hosting this day with GWII,”

The key note speaker for the day, Melinda Bam, shared her personal journey and life experiences with ladies in attendance. “Working in a corporate environment poses a disconnect in the confidence that we ought to have versus the way we try to be up against male counterparts. Who am I? What do I do? What have I been through? We often think this is the sum of who we are. But it is more about why you are who you are. This is where we get confidence. If we aim for perfection, we disregard the fact that confidence even comes from our flaws. Our expectation versus reality is that we think need to be perfect to everyone in society when that is not the case. Our perception of confidence and beauty is distorted. Everything becomes distorted when we look to the outside instead of within. “She explained how quickly we measure ourselves against perfection when perfection is photoshopped, unreal and unachievable. Thank you to Innosys for this inspirational key note speaker and the motivation she shared.

We would like to thank all the sponsors that contributed to the Lucky draw prizes, from beautiful Swarovski Crystals, Champagne, spa vouchers, laptop bags, hampers and goodies and so much more. Lucky draw prize sponsors were Allianz, Bryte Insurance, Camargue Underwriting Managers, Constantia Insurance, Chubb, Digicall, Genasys Technologies, GWII, Hollard Oojah, Hollard, Old Mutual Insure, Paton Personnel, PG Glass, Santam, SHA Specialist Underwriters, Standard Bank Insurance and Western National. Thank you to Bair Specialist Recruitment for providing a Bohemian themed photo booth and allowing ladies in attendance printed photo memories to take home with them!

Harvest tables, surprise art activity and lucky draws added to the Bohemian flair to a perfect afternoon. A beautiful Gin Bar treated the ladies to interesting tastes and blends unique to Stadspoort Gin.

Luckily no one had to be an artist to take part in the painting activity, brushes and paint represented the opportunities that life provides to us each day, the blank slate (or plate) represented the fact that you can choose who you are every day. The ladies got the opportunity to paint their own canvas, create art pieces and have some fun.

Once again, a huge thank you to all the sponsors, main sponsors Emerald Risk Transfer, BAIR Recruitment, Constantia Insurance and SHA Risk Specialists, as well as co-sponsors Innosys, PG Glass, Tracker, Santam and Sasria, and contributing sponsors Guy Carpenter and iTOO, for their sponsorship and support for this event. Without you this ladies day would not have been such a success in celebrating the uniqueness of all the lovely women in our industry.
