We caught up with Thandi Jacobs, Learning Manager at Hollard Insure. Here’s what she had to say..

What is your favourite travel childhood memory?

Playing with cousins and friends in muddy puddles after the rain.  Feeling of water rushing through your feet, the smell in the air… priceless!

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Singapore!  And, of course, my own backyard!

What is the best way to sleep on a plane?

Get the right travel pillow for your head and neck.

What is your top travel tip?

Travel light!  Pack as little as reasonably possible, explore the local markets and get a destination-specific trinket for your memory’s sake and not forgetting gifts for loved ones back home.

What do you like to do while travelling?

Taking long walks into the local spaces.  Going off the “tourist track”, exploring parks, art galleries and FOOD!

What travel gadgets are you taking with you on this tour?

Camera, cell phone, and an adapter to be able to charge devices.  My boss would love to hear me add here that I’ll be using my iPhone for the pics.  #ShoutOut to Marlon!

What are you looking forward to the most on this trip?

Exploring the culture in the different cities, and getting to explore better how the various organisations cater for their human capital, and talent attraction, development and management strategies.

Tell us something fun about yourself that most people don’t know?

I’m convinced I was an Italian granny in my past life!  Everything about Italy fascinates me, even their wrinkly Nonna’s.

What is the one thing that you cannot travel without?

My cellphone is my connection to the world, and loved ones back home.  #YOLO!

What country has the best food?

Did I say Italy?

Have you ever gotten lost while travelling?

No.  I have a very good sense of direction.

What other destinations are on your bucket list?

Kenya, Ghana, The Gambia (Africa’s smallest country), Senegal, Italy, Canada, Scotland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil.

How will u be putting the SA in the USA?

Offer free 2-minute IsiZulu lessons to as many Americans as possible.  My personal challenge is to vlog these interactions!  Wish me luck!

Stay tuned as we feature the next #IIGlobal2019 delegate..
